In a fresh development, Goa Police have suspended the passports of Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, owners of Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, who fled to Thailand after the December 6 fire that killed 25 people.
Goa Night Club Fire Live: A devastating late-night fire at a popular Goa nightclub on Saturday claimed 25 lives and left several others injured. According to officials, most victims died of suffocation after being trapped in the basement. The blaze is believed to have begun on the first floor before quickly engulfing the entire building.
What Triggered the Goa Nightclub Fire?
Investigators believe the fire ignited during a belly dance act when an electronic firecracker was set off. The spark reportedly shot upward and fell onto the club’s temporary roof made of bamboo and palm leaves, which caught fire instantly. The flames spread within seconds, giving guests and staff almost no time to escape. Fire officials say the use of fireworks inside the enclosed space significantly contributed to the rapid spread of the blaze.
Where Are the Owners, the Luthra Brothers?
The nightclub, Birch by Romeo Lane, is owned by the Luthra brothers, who are currently untraceable. Police are actively searching for them for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
A day earlier, Interpol issued a Blue Corner Notice against the Luthra brothers, who are suspected to be hiding in Phuket, Thailand. Authorities continue efforts to trace them as part of the ongoing investigation.
The external affairs ministry has received a request from the Goa government to revoke the passports of Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra. Officials say the request is currently under examination amid the widening probe into the North Goa nightclub fire that killed 25 people.
