Goa: Goa Excise Commissioner Narayan Gad on Thursday rejected a complaint demanding suspension of the excise licence of Silly Soul cafe and Bar allegedly linked to Union Minister Smriti Irani’s family.
In his order, Gad held that the renewal was legal and valid as it was transferred to Anthony Da Gama’s wife after his death, reports news agency UNI.
The complained was filed by social activist Aires Rodrigues against the renewal of excise licence to Silly Souls Café and Bar located at Assagao village in North Goa.
Rodrigues had mentioned in the complaint that the excise license was renewed in the name of Anthony D Gama who had expired a year before the renewal.
He had requested the excise commissioner for immediate suspension of the restaurant’s licence and to order an inquiry on the grounds that fraudulent and fabricated documents were produced to obtain the licence.
He had also pointed out that the license was renewed in June 2022 while the licensee had passed away on May 17 last year.
According to reports, Rodrigues now will challenge the excise commissioner’s order before the Goa bench of the Bombay High Court in Panaji.
