Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that the probe into Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sonali Phogat’s death will be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“Following the people’s demand, especially that of her (Sonali Phogat) daughter, for CBI probe we’re handing it over to CBI today. I’m writing to Home Minister. We trust our Police & they’re doing good investigation but it’s people’s demand,” Sawant was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Sonali Phogat’s daughter demands CBI
Sonali Phogat’s daughter Yashodhara wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that the case should be transferred to the CBI.
Yashodhara wrote in the letter, “I, Yashodhara Phogat, daughter of Sonali Phogat, appeal to the government to hand over the investigation of this case from Goa Police to CBI.”

Sonali Phogat died on August 23, 2022. The initial investigation revealed that she died of natural causes. But as soon as the post-mortem reports were released, grave finding were unveiled.
The report stated that Phogat suffered from blunt hit injuries.
Phogat rose to fame with her TikTok videos. She contested the 2019 Haryana election as a BJP candidate but lost to then Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi. She also appeared in the reality show Bigg Boss In 2020.
