New Delhi: The Supreme Court Tuesday turned down the plea of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the alleged Excise Policy scam in the national capital.

The court asserted that Sisodia has alternative remedies available before the High Court while asking the Deputy CM to pursue them instead of directly invoking the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court under Article 32 of the Constitution, reported LiveLaw.

Appearing for Sisodia, Senior Advocate Manu Singh Singhvi referred the cases of Arnab Goswami and Vinod Dua submitting that Artice 32 can be invoked in exceptional circumstances.

To which, the CJI replied that the case of Arnab Goswami came to Supreme Court after a High Court hearing while, Vinod Dua was a case relating to FIRs against a journalist for making critical reports.

The Deputy CM had moved the apex court, earlier in the day, challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

On Monday, a Delhi High Court sent Manish Sisodia to CBI custody for remand till March 4. Sisodia was arrested after being grilled for nearly 8 hours by the investigation agency.

The Delhi Excise Policy Excise pertains to allegations against the Delhi Deputy CM and others to grant liquor licences to certain traders in exchange of bribe.

As per the media reports, Sisodia was not named in the Chargesheet filed by the CBI but a probe against him stayed opened.
