Glitch hits Indian airports again; Multiple flights delayed, Air India urges flyers to Check Status — Are Services Restored?

Multiple Indian airports faced a major check-in glitch, causing widespread flight delays. Air India has urged passengers to check their flight status. Here’s the latest on whether services have been restored.

The check-in systems at many airports in India were not functioning properly on Tuesday, resulting in several flights being delayed. Air India posted on X that a problem in a third-party system was affecting check-in at different airports. As a result, many airlines, including Air India, were experiencing delays.

“While the system is progressively getting restored, some of our flights may continue to experience delays until the situation fully normalises,” the national carrier added.

The airline advised passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.

What exactly happened?

Low-cost carrier IndiGo also reported delays, but these were attributed to operational issues. According to an NDTV report, the slowdown was reported because of the Amadeus software

This software is used by airlines to manage bookings, reservations, inventory, and departure control systems. It is known for its Global Distribution System (GDS) and its IT Solutions that help businesses streamline operations and enhance the customer experience.

Has the glitch been fixed? – Update!

Hours after posting about the glitch, Air India late on Tuesday confirmed that the issue had been resolved and systems were running smoothly.

“The third-party system has been fully restored, and check-in at all airports is functioning normally. All our flights are operating as per schedule,” the national carrier said.

Glitches happened last month, also

A similar situation happened last month at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. More than 400 domestic and international flights were delayed due to the major technical problem. It also affected the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS).

Major airlines like Air India, Indigo and SpiceJet were also impacted. The services were so slow that long queues can be spotted where the entire technical support crashed. The problem was found in the IP-based AMSS system, after which senior officials, including the Secretary of Civil Aviation and AAI leadership, held a meeting and issued instructions to fix the situation.

Because of the glitch, air traffic controllers had to prepare flight plans manually, which took more time and led to delays.
