The Northern Railway has initiated the comprehensive redevelopment of Ghaziabad railway station, securing a sanctioned fund of Rs 337 crore for the project. A senior railway official confirmed that work has commenced, outlining the significant upgrades scheduled for implementation.
Revamped Infrastructure
The redevelopment encompasses a new two-floor station building along with a basement, strategically positioned at both the city side and the Vijay Nagar rear side. An essential addition is the construction of an eight-meter-wide foot overbridge to enhance connectivity within the station premises.

Progress Update
Construction of the station buildings has commenced, incorporating plans for a quarter and a training hostel. Simultaneously, designs for the foot overbridge and concourse are in the developmental phase.
Project Timeline and Scope
The project is slated for completion by August 2025, aiming to introduce escalators, lifts, staircases, and a 72-meter-wide concourse. Additionally, a roof covering the entire platform is in the blueprint. The plan extends to include rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment plants, water storage structures, and underground tanks for comprehensive sustainability.
Significance of Ghaziabad Station
Spanning across 1.5 lakh sqm, Ghaziabad station is a vital hub, witnessing the movement of 200 trains daily and accommodating around 50,000 daily commuters. This redevelopment aligns with the Indian Railways’ Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, aimed at modernizing and enhancing amenities at its stations to serve the diverse needs of passengers.

Nationwide Endeavor
This initiative is part of the larger-scale endeavor to revamp and upgrade 508 stations, with 71 stations falling under the Northern Railway’s purview. The overarching objective is to transform stations into vibrant transit centers that provide a safe, efficient, and inclusive travel experience.

Among the planned enhancements are improved lighting, enhanced parking facilities, better accessibility for individuals with disabilities, and the integration of local art and culture into station design. The vision encompasses creating well-designed, modern passenger amenities and integrating stations with the city landscape for seamless transit experiences.
