Delhi’s weather on Wednesday saw a minimum temperature of 9.3 degrees Celsius, which is 1.8 degrees above the usual for this time of year. Dr. Soma Sen Roy from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) explained that the temperature was around 12 degrees Celsius in the morning due to a strong western disturbance and warm southerly winds reaching the city.
Dr. Roy also mentioned that temperatures in northern India are expected to rise by 1-2 degrees Celsius, but there won’t be much change in Delhi’s temperature. After January 24, temperatures might gradually drop as the western disturbance moves away.
Rain is forecasted for today and January 23 in areas including Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, and North Rajasthan. Meanwhile, dense fog will continue to affect regions like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha.
The air quality in Delhi remains poor, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 262 at 9 AM. The AQI scale ranges from “good” (0-50) to “severe” (401-500), indicating that people with respiratory issues should limit outdoor activities.
On January 19, Delhi experienced its warmest January day in six years with a maximum temperature of 26.1 degrees Celsius. The last time it was warmer was on January 21, 2019, when it reached 28.7 degrees Celsius. Today, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 24 degrees Celsius.
