Jaipur: In a crucial move just before the Assembly elections, the Congress-led Rajasthan government decide to provide 6 per cent reservation to most Backward Castes among the OBCs. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday made the announcement for the same.
The act would add 6 per cent more reservation to the 21 per cent that the state government already provides to Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

Informing the additional reservation to OBC, Gehlot took to Twitter and wrote, “In addition to the 21% reservation currently issued for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in Rajasthan, 6% additional reservation will be given, which will be reserved for the most backward castes of the OBC category.”
The CM further informed that a survey would be conducted by the OBC commission to identify the most backward castes in the OBC category. Following the report, the most backward castes would get more opportunities for education and service in government jobs.
The CM has said that various SC-ST castes have been continuously demanding reservation on the basis of population, the government is examining their demand too.
“In the 10% reservation of EWS category, the Rajasthan government had removed the condition of immovable property, so that this category could also be sure to get the benefit of reservation completely,” Gehlot tweeted.
State set to poll this year
The Gehlot government does not want to leave any stone unturned in order to repeat the power in the state. Rajasthan is scheduled to poll this year. Earlier, the government announced free electricity for up to 100 units and smartphones for women.
