A major accident was narrowly avoided in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday (November 26) when a speeding dumper truck lost control, smashed through a bridge railing, and fell nearly 25 feet onto a railway track in Barabanki district. The incident took place near the Ramnagar police station area and caused panic, as the Garib Rath Express, travelling from Amritsar to Bihar, passed on the adjacent track just moments earlier, narrowly missing a serious collision. Officials said the crash occurred around 9 pm while the truck, carrying plywood sheets, was crossing an overbridge.
Train movement suspended after electrical damage
According to ANI, Barabanki Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya said that the falling truck damaged the railway’s overhead electrical lines, forcing authorities to halt train operations in the affected section immediately. Upon receiving information, our team reached the site and found that a large dumper loaded with ply had fallen onto the railway track. The Garib Rath Express was simultaneously running on the adjacent track but escaped unhurt. The accident also disrupted electric lines, halting rail traffic temporarily,” added SP Vijayvargiya.

Railway engineers quickly reached the site and began clearing the debris while repairing the damaged electrical lines to restore train operations.
Driver rescued, Passenger train temporarily stranded
The truck driver, who was trapped inside the crushed cabin, was rescued by a joint team of police, railway staff, and disaster management personnel. He was immediately taken to the district hospital for medical attention.
The accident caused a passenger train to be temporarily stranded. Railway officials deployed an alternate engine to move the train once the tracks were cleared. Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya confirmed that both the Garib Rath Express and the stranded passenger train were unharmed, as the truck had fallen onto the adjacent track.
By late evening, train movement on the unaffected track was restored, while work continued overnight to remove debris from the damaged line. Police have launched an investigation to determine how the truck lost control and fell from the overbridge.
Preliminary reports suggest that the driver may have lost control due to overspeeding or a mechanical failure. Authorities are also inspecting the damaged bridge railing and electrical infrastructure for compliance with safety standards. A significant police and railway presence remained at the site, with emergency lights illuminating the area as crews worked under floodlights to clear the wreckage and fully reopen the railway line.
