Bihar News: Gangster-turned-politician Anand Mohan Singh was released from Saharsa Jail at 4.30 am on Thursday. A prison official confirmed the release of Anand Mohan.

The Bihar government had recently amended the jail rules allowing the release of 27 convicts including him. Anand Mohan was serving a life sentence in 1994 for the murder of the then District Magistrate of Gopalganj, G Krishnaiah.

Uma Devi, wife of the then DM of Gopalganj G Krishnaiah, says that I appeal to President Draupadi Murmu and PM Narendra Modi to intervene in this matter and CM Nitish Kumar to send him (Anand Mohan) back to jail. He said that the public would oppose the release of Anand Mohan, demanding that he be sent back to jail. Releasing them is a wrong decision. CM should not promote such things. If he (Anand Mohan) contests elections in future, the public should boycott him.

‘will appeal against decision’

Padma, daughter of the then District Magistrate of Gopalganj, G. Krishnaiah, said that it is a matter of great sadness for Anand Mohan Singh to be released from jail today. The government should reconsider this decision. I request Nitish Kumar to reconsider this decision. With this decision, his government has set a wrong precedent. This is not just an injustice to one family but to the entire country. We will appeal against this decision.

Nitish motive behind release of Anand Mohan:

Actually, there are four percent Rajputs in Bihar. Anand Mohan also belongs to this caste. It is believed that due to the release of Anand Mohan, Nitish Kumar’s party RJD will get the benefit of this vote bank in the next elections. Let us tell you that on April 10, Bihar’s Nitish Kumar’s coalition government has changed the avoidance rules of the jail manual. Under this, prisoners who have killed government servants can also be released after serving 14 years of their sentence. The condition is that the prisoner should be of good conduct during the period of imprisonment. This rule has benefited Anand Mohan.

29 years ago he got lifer for DM’s murder

Anand Mohan was serving life sentence for the murder of the then DM of Gopalganj G Krishnaiah in 1994. When Krishnayya was killed, he was going from Patna to Gopalganj. At the same time, during the last rites of gangster Chhotan Shukla near Muzaffarpur, he was beaten to death by a mob.

Anand Mohan was sentenced to death by the trial court for inciting the mob to lynch Krishnaiah. However, in 2008, the High Court converted it to life imprisonment. He did not even get relief from the Supreme Court. Now the Bihar government has said that Anand Mohan has already served the sentence of 14 years. He is being released on parole because of his good behavior.
