Ganga Expressway Update: 594 km mega highway gets new deadline, 12 districts to benefit; Check full list here

The six lane (expandable up to 8 lanes) Ganga Expressway starts from village Bijoli in Meerut district and ends at Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh.

Ganga Expressway Update- In a significant development regarding the Ganga Expressway, commuters may be able to start using the roadway by the last month of this year. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure that the construction of the Ganga Expressway is completed by December, 2025. While chairing a high-level review meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Industrial Expressway Development Authority (UPEIDA) on Wednesday, CM Yogi emphasised the importance of timely execution to boost connectivity and infrastructure development in the state.

Ganga Expressway Update- 90% Complete

The 594-kilometer-long Ganga Expressway was scheduled to be completed by October 12, but continuous rains slowed the pace of construction. Despite this, the construction agency, L&T, has nearly completed most of the work. According to UPEIDA’s progress report, published on October 27, 2025, overall work on the Ganga Expressway is 90% complete.

Once complete and operational, the Ganga Expressway is set to increase connectivity in Uttar Pradesh. The length of the expressway is 594 km, and will become the longest expressway in the state after its completion. Built at a cost of over Rs. 36,200 crore, the six lane (expandable up to 8 lanes) Ganga Expressway starts from village Bijoli in Meerut district and ends at JudapurDandu village in Prayagraj district of the state. All the structures have been constructed of 8 lane width. The expressway is fully access controlled and designed for a closed toll system.

12 districts to benefit; Check full list

12 districts are set to be benefited from the project, which include: Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahar, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rai Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. Additionally, the Ganga Expressway will provide direct high speed connectivity from National Capital Region through proposed expressway to Meerut and then onwards to Prayagraj.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur, on December 18, 2021. CM Yogi also reviewed UPEIDA projects, emphasising timely completion and quality assurance. He stated that expressways are not merely roads but the backbone of Uttar Pradesh’s economy and industrial future. Proposed extensions of the Ganga Expressway, including the Meerut–Haridwar, Noida–Jewar, and Chitrakoot–Rewa Link Expressways, as well as the planned Vindhya Expressway and Vindhya–Purvanchal Link Expressway, were also reviewed in the meeting.
