Ganga Expressway Project Hit by Monsoon; UP Minister Pushes for Quick Completion

Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta has ordered speeding up work on the Ganga Expressway after heavy rainfall delayed the construction of two interchanges.

While the Ganga Expressway project is moving towards its deadline, new hurdles are arising due to the continuous monsoon rains. In view of this situation, Uttar Pradesh Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta has given instructions to speed up the project. In a high-level review meeting held on Wednesday, September 10, he clearly told the officials that “the construction work should be completed within the stipulated time frame and it should be reviewed weekly.”

The meeting was held to review the projects being operated, under construction and proposed under the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). According to a report by Jagran, in the meeting, Minister Gupta also known as Nandi was informed about the current progress of the 594 km long Ganga Expressway, which is one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the state. Although the main route is almost complete, work on two important interchanges has been disrupted due to heavy rains. Live Hindustan reports that the locations of these interchanges being built near Jagatpur (Unchahar Road) and Ahar (Lalganj Road) are waterlogged, causing difficulties in removing soil.

Company ITD administrative officer Anil Poonia said that most of the construction work has been completed, but the last part of the main road is still incomplete. He said, “Only about 300 meters of earthwork is left to complete the main road.”

Despite these challenges, UPEIDA officials are hopeful of making the project operational by November. Works like remaining soil cutting, planting grass on slopes and toll booth construction are in the final stages.

Minister Gupta described the quality of construction as paramount and said that “there should be no compromise on the quality of work.” At the same time, he also expressed the need to pay special attention to the maintenance and safety aspects of the project.

This expressway is expected to benefit farmers and traders economically. Currently, farmers are forced to sell their produce only in local or nearby markets, causing them losses.

Now the success of the project depends on the weather conditions and the hard work of the team to complete it on time.
