From ‘Jai Samvidhan’ To ‘Jai Bheem’ Lok Sabha MPs Wrap Up Oaths With Resounding Slogan

Prominent figures, including Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Hema Malini, took their oaths during the second day of the 18th Lok Sabha session, with 535 members completing their oath-taking over two days.

Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, Hema Malini, Asaduddin Owaisi, and Kanimozhi Karunanidhi were notable figures who took their oaths on the second day of the inaugural session of the 18th Lok Sabha. A total of 535 members completed their oath-taking between Monday and Tuesday, leaving seven members who still need to finish the process. After taking their oaths, many MPs enthusiastically chanted slogans such as 'Jai Hind', 'Jai Maharashtra', 'Jai Bheem', and 'Jai Shivaji' Om Birla, nominated for the speaker's position from the BJP, also took his oath on Tuesday. When Birla, who served as the speaker in the 17th Lok Sabha, arrived to take his oath, Radha Mohan Singh, presiding over the session, stood up and welcomed him. Since 2014, Birla has been serving as the representative of the Kota constituency in the Lower House. Several Opposition MPs took their oath while holding a copy of the Constitution. After taking his oath, Gandhi exclaimed 'Jai Hind, Jai Samvidhan.' Following his greeting to the Chair, he also shook hands with a House official before stepping down from the podium. Chandrashekhar, an MP from Uttar Pradesh's Nagina representing the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), concluded his oath with a series of slogans. Holding a copy of the Constitution, he declared, 'Jai Bhim, jai Bharat, jai Samvidhan, jai Mandal, jai Johar, jai jawan, jai kisan.' Following her oath, Supriya Sule (NCP-Sharad Pawar) respectfully touched the feet of Pro-tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab and sought blessings from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Meanwhile, BJP's Bareilly MP Chhatra Pal Singh Gangwar sparked controversy by raising a slogan endorsing 'Hindu Rashtra', which drew objections from opposition benches. Sasikant Senthil, Congress MP from Thiruvallur in Tamil Nadu, urged to 'halt the disgraceful atrocities against minorities, Dalits, and Adivasis.' The majority of members sworn in during the initial hour were from Maharashtra and affirmed their oaths in Marathi. A few chose to take their oaths in English and Hindi.
