On Friday, attackers stopped a police vehicle in Gadag, Karnataka, and injured four policemen who were transporting a suspect to the police station.
Police officers from Gangavathi in Koppal district were transporting a suspect named Amjad Ali when Ali’s gang attacked their vehicle near a railway underbridge. The attackers smashed the vehicle’s windows and escaped with Ali.
The injured officers—ASI Shivasharana Gowda, Constable Mylarappa Sompura, Havaldar Marigowda Hosamani, and driver Sharanappa Thimmanagouda—were taken to a private hospital for treatment.
Police were using a private vehicle to pick up Ali, a resident of Gadag, when the incident happened.
Gadag Superintendent of Police BS Nemagouda said, “The Gangavati Shahara police came here to take a suspect into custody for a crime. After picking him up and leaving, the suspect’s gang attacked them, broke the vehicle’s windows, and escaped with the suspect.”
He added, “Four policemen sustained minor injuries. We will take legal action against all the accused based on their complaint.”
