Four sanitary workers, which includes two women from Tamil Nadu were killed after they were run over by Thiruvananthapuram-bound Kerala Express. The incident happened near Shoranur Railway station on Saturday evening.
This happen when workers were clearing the garbage from the railway track near Shoranur bridge in Palakkad district. According to officials, the Train was running towards Kerala from Delhi.
“Three bodies were retrieved from the area and process is going on to locate the fourth one” police said. The incident happened around 3:05 pm while they were clearing the garbage from the railway track.
“The workers may not have noticed the train approaching towards them, which resulted in the accident but further investigations are underway” said an officer with Shoranur Railway police.
Thiruvananthapuram-bound Kerala express hit the sanitary workers while they were clearing the garbage. The Victims included two men and two women. Three workers have been identified as Lakshman, Valli and Rani. Bodies of the three identified victims have been shifted to Palakkad District Hospital.
The Railway contracted workers were performing their duties, got struck by Thiruvananthapuram-bound Kerala Express. The Train was going towards Kerala from Delhi.
Railway Announced An Ex Gratia For Deceased Families
Railway announced an ex gratia of Rupees 1 lakh to the families of deceased workers, including two men and two women. The Southern Railway has terminated the services of contractor who was awarded the work to clean railway tracks in which three people lost their lives and one got missing.
According to release issued by railways, “The action for terminating the contract has been initiated and criminal case also is registered against the contractor for failing to ensure the safety of worker about incoming train”. The contract for rag picking was given to Munavvar from Malappuram.
