Former Miss India Falls For ‘Digital Arrest’ Scam, Loses Rs 99,000

Shivankita Dixit, a model and former Femina Miss India contestant, recently fell victim to a cyber scam that left her reeling after losing ₹99,000.

Former Miss India winner was allegedly put under digital arrest for around two hours and duped to the tune of Rs 99,000 in Agra, said police. Victim Shivankita Dixit is a Femina Miss India 2017 winner who resides with her family members in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

According to reports, recently she received a call from an unidentified number, and the caller introduced himself as a CBI officer. During the call, she was accused of money laundering and human trafficking.

The fraudster also told that her HDFC Bank account contained funds linked to serious crimes such as child kidnapping and robbery. Later, she received a WhatsApp video call, and a man posing as a Delhi police officer put her under digital arrest.

Her call was transferred to four people on the pretext of investigation. During the video call she was pressured to transfer Rs 2.5 lakh or face arrest. After multiple requests, she transferred Ra 99,000 and sought some time to borrow additional money from her friends.

Sanjay Dixit, Shivankita Dixit’s father, recalled that his daughter had locked herself in her room, crying while on a phone call. “We knocked on the door repeatedly, but she didn’t respond. When she finally opened it, we found out she had fallen victim to a scam,” he said.

Upon realizing the fraud, Shivankita and her family reported the incident to the cyber police and filed an online FIR. “We want our money back and demand strict action against the perpetrators to ensure others don’t go through the same ordeal,” her father added.
