Former Law Minister Shanti Bhushan breathed his last on Tuesday after a brief illness at his residence in Delhi. He was 97. He was the Law Minister of India from 1977 to 1979. He was born on 11 November 1925. Bhushan served as the law minister in the Morarji Desai-led Janta party government from year 1977-1979.

His contributions

He had filed many petitions for national interest in the Supreme Court through his NGO named Center for Public Interest Litigation. In 2018, Shanti Bhushan filed a petition in the Supreme Court for the amendments in Master of Roster. He was also one of the founding members of Aam Admi Party (AAP). He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha from 14 July 1977 to 2 April 1980. In 1980, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. He resigned from the party in 1986. Shanti Bhushan and his son Prashant Bhushan were actively involved in the Anna movement.
