Karpoori Thakur has been posthumously honored with the Bharat Ratna. The former Chief Minister of Bihar was renowned for his advocacy on behalf of the backward classes.
Karpoori Thakur was born in the Samastipur district. In 1940, he passed the matriculation examination from Patna and actively participated in the independence movement. Karpoori Thakur chose to align himself with Acharya Narendra Dev and later embraced the path of socialism, participating in the Quit India Movement alongside Mahatma Gandhi in 1942. As a result, he also had to spend time in jail during this period.

The declaration from the President's office arrives a day prior to the birth anniversary of the deceased socialist leader. Ramnath Thakur, the son of Karpoori Thakur, stated that we have reaped the rewards of 36 years of dedication. I want to express gratitude to the government on behalf of my family and the 15 crore people of Bihar.
