Former CM Of Bihar Karpoori Thakur To Be Awarded Bharat Ratna

Karpoori Thakur served as the Deputy Chief Minister once, Chief Minister twice, and remained a legislator and leader of the opposition party in Bihar for decades. After winning the elections in the first legislative assembly in 1952, he never faced defeat in subsequent Bihar Legislative Assembly elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also hailed the Bharat Ratna for the Former CM. He took to X and wrote “I am delighted that the Government of India has decided to confer the Bharat Ratna on the beacon of social justice, the great Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Ji and that too at a time when we are marking his birth centenary. This prestigious recognition is a testament to his enduring efforts as a champion for the marginalized and a stalwart of equality and empowerment. ”
