PM visit comes in backdrop of India-Pakistan Tensions
The prime minister’s visit comes in the backdrop of India-Pakistan tensions during which he interacted with the soldiers. This was not the first time when the prime minister met the soldiers. Since Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, he has met soldiers each year on Diwali festival in the past.

Since 2014, the prime minister has celebrated the Diwali festival with soldiers at different locations nationwide. The prime minister visited Siachen in 2014, the Punjab border in 2015,Himachal Pradesh's Sumdo in 2016, Jammu and Kashmir's Gurez sector in 2017, Uttarakhand's Harsil in 2018, Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri in 2019 and Rajasthan's Longewala in 2020. The Prime Minister's 2021 Diwali was in Kashmir's Nowshera, 2022 in Jammu and Kashmir's Kargil, and 2023 in Himachal's Lepcha. In 2024, the prime minister met BSF, Army, Navy and Air Force personnel at Lakki Nala in Sir Creek in Kachchh.
Operation Sindoor
Today, PM Modi's meeting with jawans in Adampur comes in the wake of "Operation Sindoor," where Indian Armed Forces targeted nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
India's Ministry of Defence said the action was in direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. Indian Armed Forces successfully struck nine terror targets, four in Pakistan, including Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot, and five in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), using special precision munitions in a coordinated operation.
