The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) yielded to the demands of protesting students, bowing to the protesting students’ demand that the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) Preliminary Exam 2024 should be conducted in just one shift.
The protests had lasted four long days on campus and had escalated by Thursday. In response to the continuous protests, the UPPSC also postponed the Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) exams and stated that the PCS preliminary exams would follow the same previous exam pattern.

Though there is no declared date for the exam, Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar said an examination schedule would soon be declared by the UPPSC. For this, a class of students have resolved that the protest will continue till an official notice appears on the commission’s website and one aspirant confirmed that protests will continue until official confirmation is made public.
Meanwhile, SP leader Akhilesh Yadav has sharply criticized the state government, referring to the situation as “Yogi versus competitive students”. He expressed concerns about the government’s handling of the protests, questioning whether authorities might use bulldozers to dismantle student accommodations.

“The students’ uprising will signal the downfall of the BJP. They wield batons instead of providing jobs,” Yadav wrote on X after arguing that the government’s actions showcased an indifferent attitude towards youth employment.
He further accused the ruling BJP of prioritizing communal agendas at the cost of employment issues, asserting that this strategy keeps people focused on basic needs, allowing corrupt practices to go unchecked under the surface. Yadav has also emphasised that repeated delays in exams and numerous unfilled vacancies have only increased frustration and discontent among the youth.
