Panic spread among people in Manipur as they witnessed an unusual sight in the sky. An unidentified flying object (UFO) was seen hovering above the airport Consequently, flight operations at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal were ceased for several hours on Sunday. During the process, no flights landed or took off from the airport.
As per the media reports, the UFO was sighted by a pilot of an Indigo flight that was about to depart around 2.20 PM. Subsequently, all flight operations were immediately suspended. Three flights, one was Air India and two were Indigo, were prevented from landing. The UFO was visible till 4 PM. Flight operations were resumed around 6 PM. Amidst this, the passengers had to wait at the airport. The plan travelling from Kolkata to Imphal was not allowed to land until it received clearance from the security agencies.

“Due to the sighting of an unidentified flying object within Imphal controlled airspace, two flights have been diverted and three departing flights have been delayed. Flight operations commenced after receipt of clearance from the competent authority,” Chipemmi Keishing, the director of Imphal airport confirmed in a statement. As per Imphal West Superintendent of Police Ksh Shivakanta Singh, they are clueless about what the object was and its size. All they know is that it hovered for several hours and baffled everyone.
According to media reports, after about 3 hours of chaos on Sunday, flights took off for Delhi, Patna and Guwahati at 6 pm. Ever since the incident, the airport has also been put on high alert.
