Five killed, six injured after an SUV overturns in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri

Lakhimpur Kheri accident: At least five people, including two teachers, were killed and six others were injured after the car overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on Tuesday.

The accident happened this morning on Palia-Bhira road in Lakhimpur Kheri. Officials said that 11 people were on board in an SUV when the accident happened.

“Five people in the vehicle were killed in the accident, while others have been injured,” Superintendent of Police (Lakhimpur Kheri), Sanjeev Suman told news agency ANI.

He said that all injured people have been admitted to the local community healthcare centre in Palia, and are undergoing treatment.

They were travelling from Shahjahanpur to Palia when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up overturning it, he added.

Citing police sources, news agency UNI said those killed in the accident have been identified as Raj Kishore (54), Vinay (40), Umesh Gangwar (36), Harnaam Singh (31) and Matiullah Khan (64).

“Umesh and Harnaam were teachers. It is being said that a total of 11 people were travelling in the SUV when the accident took place,” they said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over loss of lives in the accident and has directed the district administration to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
