Passengers will be able to travel on the 4.3 km stretch between ISBT Station, Zero Mile, and Bhootnath Station. The minimum fare for a single station ride is Rs 15, while the full route will cost Rs 30. Services beginning today will operate daily from 8 AM to 10 PM, with 40 to 42 trips along the corridor.
The metro coaches showcased motifs of Madhubani, signifying the indigenous art of Bihar, Madhubani. With this, Patna will be the 24th Indian city to get its own operational metro rail system.
As per media reports, each train can carry 900 passengers at a time, with every coach designed to hold 300 people. For now, the metro line will be available at an interval of every 20 minutes.
Nitish Kumar’s Dream Project
The project was envisioned over a decade ago. The project was approved by the State Cabinet on June 11, 2013, when the NDA-led Bihar Government had cleared the proposal to prepare a detailed project report. The Union Government gave its nod in June 2014, paving the way for a five-phase construction plan. Prime Minister Modi had laid the foundation stone for the city’s first metro corridor on February 17, 2019, followed by the formal establishment of the Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited a day later.
DMRC was roped in as the project consultant, while infrastructure major L&T secured the contract in January 2022. The estimated cost of the Patna Metro project stands at Rs 13,925.5 crore.
