The much-anticipated annual Amarnath Yatra commenced today, with the first batch of pilgrims arriving in the picturesque Kashmir valley. The group was greeted with open arms by local residents at the Navyug Tunnel in Qazigund, Kulgam district and Pahalgam, marking a heartwarming return to tradition following last year’s tragic events.
On July 2, 2025, the first batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims received a warm welcome at the Navyug Tunnel, where Kashmiri youth and local residents showered them with sweets, smiles, and the fragrant aroma of traditional Izbandh Soz. This display of hospitality underscored the spirit of communal harmony that characterizes the region.
As the pilgrims arrived, chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bam Bam Bhole” filled the air, reflecting the enthusiasm and devotion of those embarking on this sacred journey. This heartfelt reception aligns with the broader sentiment across Jammu and Kashmir, which is gearing up to host the 38-day pilgrimage officially starting on July 3, 2025. In a show of solidarity and warmth, locals expressed their joy at welcoming the devotees, emphasizing the significance of the pilgrimage. “We are happy that devotees of Amarnath are visiting Kashmir for the first time after the Pahalgam attack. The people here are happy. We are glad that we got this opportunity to welcome them today,” said a local resident, echoing the sentiments of many in the area.
The annual pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath holy cave began from Jammu under heightened security protocols. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha officially flagged off the first batch of pilgrims, ensuring multi-tier security arrangements were in place, particularly along National Highway 44 (NH-44), a critical route for the yatra.
Approximately 4,500 devotees departed from Jammu, embarking on a spiritual journey that holds immense significance for many across the country. Authorities remain vigilant to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during this sacred event.
