The Mumbai police’s crime branch informed the local court on Tuesday that two arrested individuals had fired shots outside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan‘s residence with the aim to kill him.
The suspects, Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21), hailing from Bihar, had evaded capture following the shooting incident outside Khan’s home at Galaxy Apartment in the Bandra area early Sunday morning. They were apprehended late Monday night in Mata No Madh village, located in Gujarat’s Kutch district, before being transported back to Mumbai.

As per the police report, Gupta was operating the motorcycle during the incident while Pal, positioned as a passenger, opened fire towards the actor’s residence. Both individuals were presented before a magistrate’s court on Tuesday. The police requested a 14-day custody for them, stating that thorough interrogation was necessary to uncover the plot and ascertain the mastermind behind the attack.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate L S Paden granted police custody of the two accused until April 25. The crime branch, in its remand note presented to the court, stated that the pair had shot at Khan’s residence with the intent to murder him. The note emphasized the necessity of custodial interrogation to uncover the mastermind behind the attack and to determine the motive. The police stated that initial investigations indicated the active involvement of the duo in the alleged crime. Additionally, during preliminary questioning, the arrested individuals confessed to carrying out the shooting, according to the police.

In their remand note, the police emphasized the necessity of keeping the accused in custody to investigate whether they had intentions to target anyone besides Salman Khan. Additionally, the note mentioned that the firearm used in the incident has yet to be recovered, and further investigation is required regarding the motorcycle utilized by the accused. The police stated that following the incident, an individual claimed responsibility for it on Facebook, with the investigation revealing that the account was operated from a foreign country. On Monday, a senior official disclosed that the IP address of the Facebook post was traced to Portugal.
At approximately 5 am on Sunday, two individuals on a motorcycle fired shots outside the residence of 58-year-old Khan in the Bandra area of Mumbai before fleeing the scene. The motorcycle was found abandoned near Mount Mary Church, just over a kilometre away from the actor’s house, as reported by the police.
