Bhopal District Magistrate Ashish Singh said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Army came together to douse the fire. The District Collector said, “The fire has been brought under control. All agencies including CISF, Army came together to douse the fire and it has been brought under control.”
Indian Air Force aircraft AN-52 and Mi-15 helicopters joined the fire fighting operations on Monday night.
According to sources, the fire broke out around 4 pm on the third floor of the government building, where the regional office of the Tribal Welfare Department is located. The fire had spread rapidly from the third floor to the upper three floors.
The fire gutted all the offices located there, including the health department’s office, where files were destroyed, sources said. An official said that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah about the fire and sought their assistance to douse it.
The third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the building were the worst affected due to the blaze, and according to officials, flames have been brought under control.
“The flames have been controlled but there is a cloud of smoke at different places, due to which there is a possibility that it may catch fire later but teams are working,” Bhopal Commissioner of Police Harinarayanachari Mishra informed ANI.
“Primarily it has come to the fore that the cause of the fire is due to a short circuit, but a team of experts has been formed to investigate it,” Mishra added.
