New Delhi: A Dalit family who was charged of Rs 60,000 for touching Hindu idols in a temple, replaced all gods with B.R. Ambedkar’s photo frame in their house. They even installed a statue of Buddha after removing all the Hindu deities’ idols.
This comes after a Dalit boy touched an idol of a prominent south Indian village deity, Sidiranna.
A Bhootayamma fair was organised in Ullerahalli village in Karnataka’s Kolar district where Dalits were not allowed. However, 15-year-old son of Shoba and Ramesh touched a pole adjacent to Sidiranna’s idol.
The incident was witnessed by Venkateshappa who later informed the village and alleged the violation of code of conduct. This offended the entire village who later decided to fine the Schedule Caste family a fine of thousand rupees.

The Dalit family was also warned of being ostracised on failing to pay the fine.
After which, the deceased family had brought down every single photo frames from the walls and removed statues of Hindu deities.
A video shared by an activist named Suraj Kumar Bauddh showed the family replacing the frames with that of BR Ambedkar.
