The ad was meant to show Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s work to make Digha a popular place for both tourists and spiritual visitors, with the Jagannath Temple as a main attraction. But the mistake caused embarrassment for the government.

BJP Slams TMC Over Digha Temple Row

The BJP has strongly criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) after an advertisement for the opening of the new Jagannath Cultural Complex in Digha caused outrage. BJP leader Amit Malviya called it a “shameful mistake” and said the ad included “inappropriate content” that disrespected a holy site.

Growing Tensions Over “Jagannath Dham” Name for Digha Temple

At the same time, many Jagannath devotees in Odisha are upset. They believe that only the 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Puri should be called “Jagannath Dham.” It is one of Hinduism’s most sacred places, and they feel that the West Bengal government is disrespecting its special status by giving the same name to the new Digha temple.

The controversy has turned into a bigger debate about religion, regional pride, and politics. Many religious leaders and devotees in Odisha are now demanding that the Digha temple stop using the name “Jagannath Dham.”

TMC Yet to Respond Officially

The TMC has not released an official statement about the advertisement mistake. However, some sources say the problem may have happened during printing. As anger increases, the government is under more pressure to explain what happened and respond to the concerns of the devotees.
