A 60-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 17-year-old daughter in Haridwar, Kankhal, police said adding that the incident came to light when minor health deteriorated after consuming contraceptive pills. Police said when the suspect came to know that his daughter was pregnant, he allegedly outraged her modesty.
During the investigation it also came to light that the victim had been sexually assaulted by her boyfriend numerous times, which resulted in two previous pregnancies and subsequent abortions. Both her father and her boyfriend have now been taken into custody and remanded into judicial custody after being presented in court.
According to police, the case came to the fore of police on October 7 when the victim’s sister came to the Kankhal police station. She said her sister was hospitalised after becoming seriously ill on Tuesday. At the hospital, the doctors confirmed the girl had taken pills for an abortion, and because of the severity of her condition, the girl was sent to a hospital in Dehradun.
After she calmed down, the minor recounted the horrific details to the investigators, claiming her father had raped her and then forced her to take abortion pills after knowing she was pregnant.
Minor Reveals She ‘Had A Third’ Abortion
The minor also mentioned it was her ‘third’ abortion. She explained that her previous pregnancies were from continuous sexual assault from her boyfriend, Priyansh who lived at Sannyasiyon Wala, Jaspur, in Udham Singh Nagar district. She also recounted that he had also forced her to take abortion pills each time.
Based on the complaint, following a directive from SSP Pramendra Dobal, a case under the relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act.
Father took advantage of daughter’s relationship
Police said Priyansh had been working as a laborer with the victim’s father for a few years and lived in the same neighborhood. The father had knowledge of Priyansh’s relationship both during and after the time they were dating. The father had also knowledge of the victim’s previous pregnancies.
Police officials stated the family attempted to cover the issue and tried to discourage the victim’s older sister from reporting the incident. However, police moved forward with the investigation and arrests without delay. Both suspects have since been remanded to jail custody and the investigation is ongoing.
