FASTag Annual Pass: Unlimited Highway Travel For Rs 3,000-A Game Changer?

By reloading a FASTag with Rs 3,000 once a year, private vehicle owners can pass all national highways, state expressways, and expressways without needing to pay tolls.

A proposed toll policy may let vehicle owners purchase a FASTag Annual Pass, enabling unlimited travel on national highways and expressways for a one-time yearly payment of Rs 3,000.

Times of India reports that MoRTH might introduce dual payment for the new toll system, leaving users free to pick either an annual pass or a charge for each trip. Modifications to physical toll booths are also being explored to ensure smoother travel.

What Are The Two Options?

Annual Pass: By reloading a FASTag with Rs 3,000 once a year, private vehicle owners can pass all national highways, state expressways, and expressways without needing to pay tolls.

Distance-Based Price: Anyone who hasn’t chosen annual road use can pay a flat Rs 50 for every 100 km of driving instead of toll plaza charges.

Current FASTags will continue to be used, which should make the conversion simple. People with cars don’t have to do anything, and active FASTag users can just go with the new policy and pay the online fee. Earlier, the government brought forward the idea of a lifetime FASTag with a big setup cost of INR 30,000. Still, this rule doesn’t apply any longer.

When Will FASTag Annual Pass Be Out?

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) plans to give current highway contractors compensation and banks will be able to put tougher measures in place to discourage toll evasion, including ensuring FASTag balances meet a minimum amount. Still, these changes have not been finalized. If FASTag and FASTag Annual Pass are adopted, millions of Indian vehicle owners can travel without hassles.
