A salesman is accused of killing a woman that he had been living with for 10 years and hiding the body in the bed in Jawahar Colony, in the limits of Saran police station. Fearing that the neighbours would smell the body, the accused placed Agarbatti (Incense sticks) at various places in the house and burned them.
After the man committed the crime, he went to his grandmother, Sundari Devi, and told her he had killed his live-in-partner Sonia. Sundari Devi was horrified, and immediately told the Saran police. When the police arrived at the house, the house was locked when they arrived. The police, with the landlord’s help, unlocked the house. Upon entering the house, the police noticed a foul smell that led them to a bedroom, where they found Sonia’s body in a decomposing state on the bed.
After his wife, Poonam, died twelve years ago, Jitendra, a bicycle cloth vendor, began sharing his life with Sonia who lived in Badkhal Colony. He severed all relationships with his two children after Poonam died, according to his grandmother, and has not had any contact in the last ten years.
On Saturday night, Jitendra came up to his grandmother and said, “I Killed Soniya” and was on his way to the police department to turn himself in. But he never made it to the police department. Sundari Devi was frightened for her own safety and disturbed by what she heard, so she went to the police herself and told them the story.
Police officers, along with Sundari Devi, arrived at the rented house where Jitendra was staying. After breaking the lock, they encountered a strong smell inside, so when they opened the bed, they recovered Sonia’s body and called a forensic team to the scene.
Investigating officer Sundar Singh said they are working on identifying and apprehending Jitendra. Officers also notified Sonia’s son Harsh, who is in Mumbai studying hotel management. Police will interview Harsh to gain further information about Sonia and her relationship with Jitendra. Authorities have initiated the search process to capture the accused, who is currently at large.
