FACTCHECK: ‘Showing Father or Husband Name is NOT…’- Aadhar Card Rules Changed, Now Everything Depends on Cardholder’s Choice?

The Aadhaar card holder can now choose whether to display the father's or husband's name. According to the new UIDAI guideline, the cardholder has the flexibility to add or remove the father's or husband's name from the "Care of (C/O)" area on the Aadhaar card according to their own preferences.

Aadhar Card Update: The Aadhaar card has emerged as the most important document for each Indian citizen in the age of Digital India. This card serves as verification of identity and address thanks to its 12-digit unique identification number. Hundreds of services, including as SIM cards, government benefits, banking, subsidies, pensions, and scholarships, now require its use. As a result, any Aadhaar-related news item becomes a talking point, however it can be dangerous to believe such assertions without doing your research.

People were recently confused by a social media news report that went viral. The argument states that the father’s or husband’s name will no longer appear on the Aadhaar card. The husband’s or father’s name field has been removed by the UIDAI, according to screenshots and videos posted by numerous individuals. Investigations into this widely circulated rumor showed that the news was wholly false. According to the investigation, UIDAI hasn’t announced anything about this. UIDAI’s official website and social media profiles don’t contain any such information. An official who answered the helpline stated that this assertion is false and that no such adjustment has been made.

It was said by a UIDAI official that the Aadhaar card’s “Care of” (C/O) field is optional. Thus, it is not required, but people are free to include their spouse’s, mother’s, or father’s name on their documents. If people so choose, they can leave the “C/O” option empty. While it is now entirely optional, this does not imply that the father’s or husband’s name has been eliminated entirely.
