PIB Fact-Check: A viral post claiming that the Reserve Bank of India is planning to launch a new Rs 5,000 currency note is widely being circulated on social media platforms. The Fact Check unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has, however, debunked this report and called it fake. The message features an image of the Rs 5000 currency note in green colour.
In a social media post, PIB has clarified that the viral message is completely fake and no such decision or announcement has been made by the RBI. “A claim is being circulated on social media that the Reserve Bank of India will issue a new ₹5,000 note. This claim is fake. No such decision has been taken by the RBI,” the X post read.
