Explainer: India To Host IPACC Amid India-China Row, Know The Strategic Importance Of The Conclave

India is not alone in the row against China and its military action, some other prominent countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States are also taking several measures prohibiting investment in China.

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing border row between India and China along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh expeditiously, the Indian army is all set to bring army chiefs of 22 countries to a single platform during a two-day long conference of Army chiefs of the Indo-Pacific nations. The top army officials will meet and exchange their experiences during the seminar, which is scheduled to be held in the national capital on September 26 and 27.

How important is the conclave?
India is not alone in the row against China and its military action, some other prominent countries such as the United Kingdom and the United States are also taking several measures prohibiting investment in China.
The United States will play a significant role in the two-day-long event, which will witness the participation of top army officials from 22 countries, as it is co-hosting the conclave alongside India. The conclave will revolve around the theme ‘Together for Peace: Sustaining Peace and Stability in the Indo-Pacific Region’.

What will be the goal of the conclave?

During the mega-event, the top brass of armed forces from all participating nations will come together and share their experiences on several military issues. The prominent serviceman will center their discussion around the role of military diplomacy in mitigating various crises. Meanwhile, they will also work on finding ways to improve collaboration among the armed forces of the region, enhance interoperability through training, and discuss the need for self-reliance by modern armies.
Additionally, the event will provide a distinctive opportunity to develop a common viewpoint towards a strategic goal. Meanwhile, it will also help participating nations fortify friendship through a powerful military bond.

India’s plan to showcase its military power

On the sideline of the event, India has also planned to exhibit its indigenously developed weapons, military systems, and other war equipment. This year, the conclave is the 13 edition of the IPACC, which was instituted as a biennial event in 1999. Meanwhile, the Indian Army has also planned to organise the Senior Enlisted Leaders Forum (SELF) and the 47th Indo-Pacific Armies Management Seminar (IPAMS).

India’s growing relation with the US

The military conclave, hosted and co-hosted by the Indian Army and the US Army respectively, came soon after India concluded the G-20 summit that witnessed the participation of several powerful countries including the United States, the UK, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, and others.

After the grand summit, India also invited US President Joe Biden to be the chief guest for India’s 2024 Republic Day parade. This shows India’s boosting global approach and strengthening relations with the United States.

Prior to that, the Indian Prime Minister visited the US from June 21 to June 23 upon the invitation of US President Joe Biden and discussed several measures including the signing of a deal for the procurement of MQ-9 Reaper for the Indian defence force.
