Police have arrested a former railway gangman after he was accused of shooting an assistant sub-inspector of the CBI with a bow and arrow outside its offices in Lucknow. Virendra Singh, 55, an ASI in the police, allegedly suffered a chest injury Friday, police said.
According to police, 65-year-old Dinesh Murmu from Bihar’s Munger attacked ASI Singh with a bow and arrow outside the CBI headquarters on Naval Kishore Marg. Doctors are treating the ASI in Lucknow, and his injury was around five centimeters deep.
Police said, Dinesh Murmu is accused of attempted murder and has been arrested. After investigation, the accused will be taken to jail this same day. Dinesh Murmu was a railway gangman when Virendra Singh of ASI investigated the corruption case in 1993, and the accused was dismissed.
According to PTI, Dinesh Murmu went to Delhi, attacked a police officer in 2005, and was later sent to jail. After a confrontation with a GRP jawan at Jaunpur railway station in 2015, he was arrested and later spent three and a half years in jail. A railway gangman’s job is to maintain the track and make sure it is safe.
