Former Haryana Congress leader Kiran Choudhry and her daughter Shruti Choudhry joined the BJP on Wednesday, ahead of this year’s upcoming assembly elections in Haryana.
Kiran Choudhry, aged 69, and Shruti Choudhry joined the BJP at an event held in the BJP office. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, former Chief Minister and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, and other party leaders were present at the event.
Kiran Choudhry, who is the daughter-in-law of the late former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bansi Lal, resigned from the Congress along with her daughter Shruti on Tuesday. Kiran criticized former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, accusing him of running the state unit of the party like his personal domain.
Kiran Choudhry mentioned that her decision to join the BJP was influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to develop India by 2047.
“I made this decision today because of the Prime Minister’s commitment to achieving a developed India by 2047. I firmly believe that India will excel globally. The Prime Minister’s efforts for public welfare have resulted in the BJP forming the government in Delhi for the third consecutive time,” she stated.
“I have collaborated extensively with Khattar ji. We had our differences in the past, but his work has inspired me,” she added.
She accused the Haryana Congress of becoming focused on individuals and stated that she decided to leave the party so that her workers could receive their rights equally.
“I was a committed worker of the Congress, dedicating my life with hard work. However, I observed over the past few years that the Haryana Congress focused more on individuals. They did not support the advancement of Congress and adopted such policies,” she told news agency ANI.
“So, you can see that Congress could never have moved forward in Haryana. Many prominent leaders left the party because of them. I took this action to ensure that my workers receive their rightful and equal rights,” she said.
After she joined the party, Khattar remembered Kiran Choudhry’s past association with him.
“Today is a significant day in history. Two prominent figures who have served in the Congress for many years have joined our party. I have known Kiran ji since our days working with Bansi Lal ji. We used to sit across from each other in the assembly, and over time, we could anticipate each other’s thoughts,” he said.
On the contrary, Saini stated that the BJP would focus on bolstering the party in Haryana before the state assembly elections.
Shruti Choudhry, who served as the working president of the Haryana Congress unit, currently holds the position of MLA representing Tosham in Bhiwani district. She is regarded as a prominent opponent of Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
