A member of an erstwhile royal family in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna was apprehended for hurting religious sentiments. The former royal identified as Maharani Jiteshwari Devi created a ruckus by entering temple’s sanctum sanctorum during Janmashtami celebrations in the district, said the officials. The incident took place on Thursday at the renowned Jugal Kishore temple of Panna.
Like every year, Krishna Janmashtami is commemorated at midnight in the Shri Jugal Kishore temple, a popular religious site in the Bundelkhand region. As per the temple officials, Jiteshwari Devi insisted to perform the aarti herself by disregarding the ongoing rituals. Following this, she fell as she attempted to enter the sanctum sanctorum.
Consequently, it caused a ruckus and she was shown her way out of the temple premises. A video of the incident which depicted Jiteshwari Devi arguing with the temple authorities and the police later did rounds on the internet.

Subsequently, she was apprehended under various sections of the Indian Penal Code such as section 295A and 353.
On Friday, she was presented before the court from where she was apprehended, said an official. While on her way to the jail, she accused the Madhya Pradesh government of ₹65,000 crore embezzlement from the Defense Welfare Fund. She claimed that the arrest was made to prevent her from being vocal about the alleged scam.
