Traffic congestion in Greater Noida West has become a significant problem for residents as vehicles heading towards the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Crossings Republik, and Greater Noida converge at Gaur Chowk, leading to long queues, particularly during peak hours.
Residents have been voicing their frustration on social media. Manish Kumar, a resident of Supertech Ecovillage 1, recently posted a video on ‘X’ showing vehicles crawling along Greater Noida West Road. He highlighted that the travel time has increased by about 30 minutes in recent months, with a 2km stretch taking nearly 45 minutes to cross. Monsoon-borne potholes near Gaur City Mall and the closure of service lanes by traffic police have worsened the situation.

Despite a promise made by the Greater Noida authority on May 1 to decongest Gaur Chowk by constructing an underpass, no work has started yet. These traffic jams affect many of the 400,000 residents living in high-rises and surrounding villages in Greater Noida West. Factors contributing to the congestion include encroachments, wrong-side driving, lack of pick-up/drop-off areas, inadequate e-rickshaw parking, and the absence of underpasses and pedestrian crossings.
pic.twitter.com/lBNJjSzWql— Greater Noida West (@GreaterNoidaW) August 30, 2024
Gaur Chowk is a key junction connecting major routes like the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Crossings Republik, and Greater Noida. Sumil Jalota, another resident, noted the worsening traffic around Gaur Chowk, with his commute taking an additional 15 to 30 minutes due to congestion.

Authorities are working to address the issue. Yamuna Prasad, deputy commissioner of Noida traffic, said they are collaborating with the Greater Noida authority and have made minor changes, including traffic cuts and diversions, along with deploying additional traffic personnel during peak hours.

There is a plan to build a six-lane underpass on the Taj Highway, connecting Greater Noida to Gaur City and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, which will also intersect with the proposed Greater Noida West Metro line. However, progress on this project has yet to begin.
