Election Commission: Elections will be held in a total of 9 states including the northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland before the 2024 general elections.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will hold a press conference on Wednesday at 2:30 pm in Delhi to announce the election dates for Nagaland, Tripura, and Meghalaya assembly elections.

The term of these three assemblies is ending on different dates in March.  It is to inform that 2023 is crucial year as besides these three states ( Nagaland, Tripura, and Meghalaya) Assembly elections are also to be held in 6 more States (Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram). Assembly elections in Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya are due in February-March this year.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said the Election Commission of India has made all arrangements to allow voters to join the ‘festival of democracy’ and if a voter faces any threat or intimidation on the day of polling, he or she can use cVigil app to inform the election authorities.

Assembly elections in 9 states before 2024 general elections

Elections will be held in a total of 9 states including the northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland before the 2024 general elections. Today, after the press conference of the Election Commission, it has been decided that elections will be held first in the North Eastern states. There is a possibility that assembly elections may also be held in Karnataka in April or May.

Explain that the term of the 40-member Mizoram assembly ends on December 17, 2023, while that of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Telangana ends on different dates in January 2024.
