New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) is likely to announce the schedule of assembly polls in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh on Friday, said sources.
The Election Commission convened a press conference on Friday afternoon at 3pm where it is expected to announce the dates for Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections. The press conference will be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

It is noted that the term of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly will end in January 8 next year, where as of Gujarat in February 18, 2023.
The poll body recently visited the two poll-bound states to take stock of preparedness.

Himachal Pradesh: No government repeated after 1985
If we look at the electoral data of Himachal Pradesh, no party has been able to return to power in the state for two consecutive terms since 1985. In 1985, BJP came twice in the state in a row, but since then no ruling party has returned to the state. However, this time too the BJP is trying hard to return to power again in the 2022 Himachal Pradesh assembly elections. In the 2017 assembly elections, BJP had won 44 seats, Congress 21 and others three.

Himachal Pradesh has total 68 assembly seats
In Himachal Pradesh, of the total 68 assembly seats, 17 assembly seats were reserved for Scheduled Castes in the 2017 elections. At the same time, 3 assembly constituencies were reserved for Scheduled Tribes. The state had 48 assembly seats for the general category.
Election for 182 seats in Gujarat:
There are total 182 assembly seats in the state. Of these, 40 seats are reserved. While 13 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and 27 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) / Tribal society.
