Delhi News Update: A powerful blast rocked Delhi’s busy Chandni Chowk market on Monday, triggering chaos and panic among shoppers.
Eyewitnesses said the blast took place near Gate No. 1 just as people were stepping out of their vehicles, forcing them to leave their cars and run for cover, and people started running to safety in the crowded marketplace.
Couple describes terrifying escape
A couple, Puja Garg, a travel agent, and Nitin Mittal, an event organiser, had gone to Chandni Chowk to buy articles.

When they were coming out in their car, an explosion took place in front of them. They left their car and ran to safety. Puja Garg said, ” चांदनी चौक बाज़ार में सामान खरीदने गए थे, तभी सामने blast हो गया। गेट नंबर 4 के सामने कार से उतरते समय धमाका हुआ। हम लोग कार छोड़कर बाज़ार के अंदर भाग गए। (We had gone to Chandni Chowk market to buy some items when a blast occurred right in front of us. The explosion took place as we were getting out of the car near Gate No. 4. We left the car and ran inside the market.)

‘People ran leaving everything behind’
Nitin Mittal said, “चने वाले कचौरी वाले के चिथड़े उड़ गए। कितने लोग मारे गए हैं, यह हम बता नहीं पाएँगे, लेकिन काफ़ी लोग मारे गए हैं। और जब हम अंदर भागकर गए, तो देखा कि सभी लोग अपनी दुकानें छोड़कर भाग रहे थे…(We cannot say how many people have died, but many have been killed. And when we ran inside, we saw that everyone had left their shops and was fleeing.”
Meanwhile, a Delhi Police officer said that a probe is being done. He said, “As of now, I can’t tell you anything. Investigation is being done.”

‘Seven fire units rushed to the spot‘
Deputy Chief Fire Officer AK Malik said, “We got information that there was a blast in a car near Chandni Chowk Metro Station. We responded immediately, and seven units were sent to the spot. At 7:29 PM, the fire was brought under control. There is a possibility that there are casualties in this. All our teams are present at the spot.”
