Eight Polytechnic students awarded life sentence in gang-rape case

Jhansi: Eight students of the Jhansi Government Polytechnic have been awarded life sentence by a local court here for raping a minor girl two years ago.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Nitendra Kumar also imposed a fine on the convicts on Monday, reports news agency PTI.

Special public prosecutor POCSO Act, Vijay Kumar Kushwaha, said that all the eight accused have been found guilty of the heinous crime.

The incident took place on October 11, 2020, during the pandemic, when the girl was going for tuitions with her friend. The convicts caught the rape-survivor as she passed the polytechnic and gang-raped her.

At the time of the incident, all the accused were the students of polytechnic and were aged between 20 and 24.

According to the report, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act.

The accused who have been sentenced are: Rohit Saini, Bharat Kumar and Sanjay Kushwaha, Dharmendra Sen, Monu Parya and Mayank Shivhare, Shailendra Nath Pathak and Vipin Tiwari.
