As the holy month of Ramadan draws to a close, excitement is growing as people await confirmation of the exact date for Eid-ul-Fitr, the first day of the month of Shawwal, which celebrates the end of the month of fasting, Ramadan. The date will be determined by the sighting of the crescent moon.
This year, Ramadan began on March 2 (Sunday), following the crescent moon sighting from the previous day (Saturday, March 1). For Muslims during Ramadan, observants are expected to complete either 29 or 30 days of Roza (fasting) depending on the lunar cycle.
According to the central government’s holiday calendar, Eid 2025 is tentatively scheduled for March 31 (Monday). However, the final date depends on when the crescent moon sighting.

Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 Moon Sighting Dates In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, And UAE
In countries within South Asia, such as India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh Ramadan traditionally starts one day after the Middle East so people will look for the crescent moon on March 30, 2025 (the 29th day of Ramadan 1446 AH).
If the crescent moon is spotted on the evening of March 30 then Eid will be observed on March 31 but if the moon is not visible Ramadan will extend to 30 days, and Eid will be celebrated on April 1, 2025.
Muslims in Saudi Arabia, UAE, UK, Egypt, Turkey, and other Middle Eastern and Western countries will look for the moon . Since Ramadan began on March 1 in Saudi Arabia, Eid will probably be on March 30 depending on if the moon is sighted in Saudi Arabia on the evening of the 29th.
The UAE government has officially announced a four-day public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr. The UAE’s Moon Sighting Committee will begin looking for the crescent on March 29. If the crescent moon is confirmed to be sighted on March 29, then according to the Gregorian calendar the Eid holidays in the United Arab Emirates will take place on the 30th, 31st, and April 1.
