Eid al-Adha, the second most important festival for Muslims, is likely to be celebrated on June 6 (Friday) in many Islamic countries, according to reports. This festival is also known as Bakrid and is celebrated by Muslims around the world, including in India.
However, the exact date of Eid al-Adha will be decided after the crescent moon is seen, which also marks the start of the Hajj pilgrimage. In India, Eid al-Adha is usually celebrated a day after it is observed in Gulf countries.
Eid al-Adha honours the strong faith and devotion of Prophet Ibrahim towards Allah.
When Will Eid al-Adha Be Celebrated?
Eid al-Adha will likely begin on Friday, June 6, in most Muslim countries.
The International Astronomical Centre (IAC) says the new moon that marks the start of the Islamic month Zil-Hajj will likely be seen on Tuesday, May 27. Zil-Hajj is the 12th month in the Islamic calendar.
According to the IAC, the first day of Zil-Hajj will be Wednesday, May 28. Since Eid al-Adha is celebrated on the 10th day of Zil-Hajj, it will fall on Friday, June 6 this year.
What Is the Expected Date of Eid al-Adha in India?
In India, Islamic months usually start a day after they begin in Gulf countries. This means the moon marking the start of Zil-Hajj 1446 will likely be seen in India on Wednesday, May 28. So, the first day of Zil-Hajj in India will probably be Thursday, May 29.
That means Eid al-Adha in India is expected to be on Saturday, June 7, which is the 10th day of Zil-Hajj. However, this could change depending on the actual moon sighting.
Meanwhile, authorities in Saudi Arabia have asked people to look for the Zil-Hajj moon on Tuesday.
