ED Crackdown on coal mafia: 40 sites raided in Jharkhand, West Bengal; Dhanbad businessman blocks raid with dog

The agency conducted searches at 24 premises in Durgapur, Purulia, Howrah and Kolkata districts in connection with the illegal coal mining, illegal transportation and storage of coal case.

In a major crackdown on the coal mafia network, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids at more than 40 locations across Jharkhand and West Bengal on Friday. The ED’s Ranchi and Kolkata offices launched the raids early in the day based on specific intelligence. The searches targeted residences, offices, and other places linked to the suspects.

The agency conducted searches at 24 premises in Durgapur, Purulia, Howrah and Kolkata districts in connection with the illegal coal mining, illegal transportation and storage of coal case. During the operation, they recovered huge amount of cash and jewelleries, photos of which have been shared by the ED. “It is a coordinated action at more than 40 premises against coal mafias in Jharkhand and West Bengal,” the officials told ANI.

Notably, ED's Ranchi zonal office is conducting searches across 18 locations in Jharkhand, in connection with cases of coal theft and smuggling, covering the matters of some individuals identified as Anil Goyal, Sanjay Udhyog, LB Singh, and Amar Mandal. Premises related to Narendra Kharka, Anil Goyal, Yudhistir Ghosh, Krishna Murari Kayal and others are also being covered in the operation.

Dhanbad businessman blocks raid with dog

Meanwhile, it has come to notice that in Dhanbad, a businessman identified L.B. Singh released his pet dog to prevent ED officials from entering his home. While News24 could not independently verify the authenticity of the claim, if the businessman has indeed released his pet dog then it counts as crime. The act can be considered as an obstruction of public servants in the discharge of their official function.
