Joshi, who is close to former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, was arrested from Jaipur by ED officials after a series of questioning from the central probe agency. Joshi was the minister of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) in the Gehlot-led previous Congress government.
In November last year, a case was filed against Joshi and 22 others in the case. In the FIR filed, the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) stated Joshi misused his official position. Joshi was also accused of diverting funds by colluding with officials and contractors of the PHED department in the execution of the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme in Rajasthan.
The central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission was intended to provide safe and adequate drinking water through household tap connections, and is being implemented in Rajasthan through the PHED.
The ED also carried out multiple searches in this case, including at Joshi’s premises, and also arrested an alleged middleman and some contractors. The others accused in the scam are Sushil Sharma, a financial advisor to Joshi, Chief Engineers RK Meena and Dinesh Goyal, and others.
