Dates for assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana have been announced today. The polling for J&K has been scheduled in three phases and the results for both the states are to be announced on October 4.
This will be the first-ever Assembly election for Jammu and Kashmir after its transformation. Notably, in its verdict on the territory, the Supreme Court directed the election commission to conduct assembly polls in J&K within the deadline of September 30.
After being molded from a state to a union territory in 2019, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed its biggest historic change post-independence. The abrogation of Article 370 changed its political structure on August 5, 2019, and brought a geographical restructure too with the segregation of Ladakh as a separate union territory.
