New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) recently released a new notification that would make it easier for citizens to access transportation-related services. The need for people to go to the regional transport office is no longer necessary because to the availability of up to 58 citizen-centric services connected to driving licences, conductor licences, vehicle registration, permits, and transfer of ownership, etc.

On September 16, 2022, MoRTH published a notification raising the number of citizen-centric services from 18 to 58.

The Ministry stated on Saturday that these services can be used on a voluntary basis and with the use of Aadhaar authentication.

Online services such as applying for a learner’s permit, getting a duplicate driving licence, and renewing a driving licence all require Aadhaar verification on a voluntary basis; no driving test is necessary for these services.

Among the additional online services for which a citizen must voluntarily submit to Aadhaar authentication include the issuance of an international driving permit, changing the address on a conductor licence, and applications for transfer of motor vehicle ownership.

An alternative document must be physically submitted to the appropriate Authority in accordance with CMVR 1989 in order to verify identity for anyone who does not have an Aadhaar number to use the service in physical form.

Saving citizens’ valuable time and lessening their compliance burden would be greatly aided by the provision of such services in a faceless and contactless manner. As a result, the RTOs’ foot traffic is probably going to drop dramatically, which would increase the efficiency of how well they operate, according to the ministry.

According to the statement, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has been implementing a number of citizen-focused changes to make it easier for people to access services linked to transportation.
