New Delhi: A dress code has been implemented for women and girls in three major temples under the Mahanirvani Akhara in Uttarakhand. Shrimahant Ravindra Puri, secretary of Mahanirvani Akhara and president of Akhil Bhartiya Akhara Parishad, told news agency ANI that women and girls cannot enter the three temples under Mahanirvani Akhara wearing short clothes.
Shrimahant Ravindra Puri said that these temples include Daksha Prajapati Temple at Kankhal in Haridwar, Neelkanth Mahadev Temple in Pauri district, and Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple in Dehradun. Puri said, “Women and girls cannot enter these three temples wearing short clothes. These three temples come under the Mahanirvani Akhara.”
He added, “An appeal has been made by the Mahanirvani Akhara to women and girls that if they are coming to the temple for worship, they should wear clothes according to Indian tradition. Only then do they get entry into the temple.”
Shrimant Ravindra Puri appealed to girls and women, as well as their family members, to come to temples with at least 80 per cent of their bodies covered. He claimed that this system is already in place in temples in South India and Maharashtra. He said, “Now this system is being implemented here as well. So that the devotees coming to the temple do not face any kind of uncomfortable situation.”
